Today is Saint Anthony's Day in Lisbon (he was born here in 1195). I spent the day with J. in Alfama, one of the capital's typical barrios, and took these pictures...
A blog with pictures and memories from life in Lisbon. Um blogue de recordações de Milan Perveze...

Brilliant! The colors of the shades, and then that dog... Love it!
Glad you liked it K :) I've included another dog picture just for you - look at the middle of the pictures.
WONDERFULLL...milan...excellent series
love the one with the 2 old ladies...
the one with the 3 boys...
and the skyline....
is the first pic a self-potrait?
the one with the crowded tram...looks scarry.... i wouldnt want to be a sardine inside it... hehehehehehe
Thanks for passing by guys! Glad you liked the pics Mrs Fish. Z., no self-portrait yet here, all the people photographed were either tourists or living in the area.
Great pictures. makes me want to strt traveling and seeing these places for my self. Thanks for posting. :)
I was wondering the same as Z... but as you've already answered there's no need to ask again if it was a self-portrait...
I love it!
How was Santo António and the Marchas? I haven't seen them... I guess I'm not such a big fan... I rather enjoy S. João here! It's so much cooler to go out and spank the others with those stupid hammers and watch the fire at midnight than seeing the Marchas... don't you think? Ever been here in S. João?
Metallyptica, as I was practically born in Almada, the S. João Day (St John), for me, brings me memories of those litle fires at night, and all of us children jumping on it. I can't stand those marches at Av. da Liberdade (a kind of Carnaval, for you guys who live abroad)! All that mess and confusion. I thought of going there just to take pictures, after almost 20 years of running away from that. I decided I just couldn't stand that, no matter what :))))
LOL!
I was once in Lisbon during Santo António and my mother wanted to go and see those Marchas in Avenida... but thank god she changed her mind I don't know why and we haven't been there.
That little fires to jump on I've never experienced... here the main thing is the fire works at midnight (and lately it has not been THE fire but fires, cause Gaia wants to show off as well, and Rui Rio has his own fire, and then some other little fires go up... it's the weirdest thing... but it's cool for us who get to see much more than one fire per night! LOL
These are great!! I started cracking up laughing though when you mentioned the "little fires", my oldest daughters dad burnt his feet real bad when he was a little kid jumping in them. I am not sure they are the same thing, but sounds like it. I know it was at some kind of festival. He thought if he put plastic bags on his feet he wouldnt burn them, well the plastic melted to his feet and he ended up in the hospital. Too funny!!!!!!
Wendi, I think it is the same fires. On St. John's Day, at night, men and children used to lit fires and played around it. So I suppose it's the same thing your previous partner mentioned. I suppose we lost those traditions by now, I haven't seen anything similar since my teenage years.
... as always your shots inspire me and you work keeps getting stronger.
Milan, that I guess is still done in the villages and "aldeias"...
It's kinda like the same tradition as the Beltane Fire, a celtic tradition.
Great pictures Milan, I love the dog looking out the window picture, also the boys on the steps. These are all very nice.
Love the way you took shots of them people...
